Self portrait by James Hoey Scott (1892 – 1981)

Mr Scott purchased 12-20 North Street (12 North Street is now the museum building) in 1937, saving it from demolition. His sympathetic restoration was said to ‘comprise one of the best illustrations of what can be done towards preserving old buildings…’

James Hoey Scott Story

Mr Scott lived at 12-20 North Street until 1962 when he sold the property to The St Andrews Preservation Trust. Based on photographs of Mr Scott, we believe he painted this self-portrait at around the same time as his restoration of the house.
