Fundraising Quiz Night: A Reflection
By Brandon Dickens
Last week, we held a fundraising quiz night to help contribute towards the redevelopment project. This was the first Preservation Trust/Heritage Museum event that I had an active hand in as the new Digital Marketing Apprentice, so I am writing my reflections on it and my thoughts on how well it went.
One of the first steps in making the quiz night happen was starting the online promotion and advertising. In early April, I began scheduling social media posts that highlighted the upcoming event with an accompanying poster. If you’re a regular visitor to our social media or website, you’ll be sick of seeing it by now!
The turnout for the fundraising quiz night was spectacular, as we had nearly full capacity at our venue. Faces both familiar and new filled out the tables at this event, which told me that our advertising attempts were successful. I would chalk this up to a good mix of word-of-mouth, poster placement in the town and social media presence. Many thanks for the help from our volunteers who knew the best places to catch people’s attention. Perhaps in the next event, we should conduct a survey to hear how people found out about it, if time allows.
I didn’t participate in the quiz myself. Instead, I helped to set up the venue as well as mark the answers between rounds. Until I actively helped set up an event like this, I didn’t appreciate the work that went into it. My co-workers at the museum went to great lengths to prepare for the night, as did the volunteers involved. From writing the questions and answers, to gathering prizes, to running a raffle, there was a lot of teamwork.
Thankfully, our efforts paid off as everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Some have even expressed interest in attending another fundraising quiz night, if we were to run one. This feedback made us feel proud of what we accomplished and how much money was raised for the redevelopment. I’d also like to thank The New Golf Club for hosting our quiz night. It was a lovely venue with an amazing view of the West Sands, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The drinks didn’t go amiss either!
All in all, I enjoyed being a part of this event. It was a fun evening and the atmosphere was brilliant, especially with so many attendees. I would certainly like to help run another quiz night in the future, if there is enough interest. Thanks to all who came along, I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!
