There is no admission charge to visit the museum. However, as a charity we rely on the generous donations of visitors to allow us to continue to care for our museum and collections. Please consider making a donation.

PLAN YOUR VISIT TO ST ANDREWS MUSEUM

The best way to experience the beauty and history of St Andrews local heritage is to come along to the Museum and have a wander around. Our opening days and times vary with the seasons, so please check before you travel.  Guided tours of the museum can be provided by arrangement – call us on 01334 477629 to arrange.

Admission

There is no admission charge to the museum and garden unless otherwise stated for a specific event or exhibition. We are an independent, self-funded museum and rely on donations to cover museum operating costs. Please consider supporting our work by making a donation.

Parking

Free on-street parking is available at the east end of North Street from the Younger Hall to the Cathedral, along the Scores and down the Pends. There are two disabled parking bays directly opposite the museum. Please check local street signage for parking charges.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, the museum is not fully accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. Access to the garden however can be arranged. There is also limited space for prams due to the layout of the building. For further details check our Accessibility Statement.

    Wednesday – Sunday, 12pm-4pm
    Covid-19 Update: The Museum is currently operating at reduced capacity in line with Covid-19 guidelines. Please help us to keep the museum a safe place to visit by wearing a mask, following social distancing signage and using the hand sanitizer throughout. We are happy to accommodate pre-booked visits at this time. If you wish to book a specific day and time to visit the museum, please call 01334 477629 or email museum@stapt.org.uk.
    The museum closes over the winter period. In 2021, the museum will close on Monday 13th December 2021.

    Admission to the St Andrews Heritage Museum & Garden is free, unless otherwise stated for a particular Exhibition or Event.

Families & Children

The museum and garden is a wonderful place for children to explore and learn with fun activity sheets, a magical fairy garden and outdoor toys and games.

Activity sheets for children and young people are available within the Museum. During your visit please ask a Museum Guide who will be happy to assist. We also have some activities for children and young people that can be enjoyed from home

Guided Tours

Guided tours of the museum and garden can be arranged by appointment by calling 01334 477629 or by emailing museum@stapt.org.uk. Guided tours are charged at £4 per adult and last around 45 minutes. Tours can be conducted for groups of no more than 8 people.

Tours of the Town

Our team of local volunteer guides would be delighted to share their knowledge of St Andrews and its history with you. 100% of ticket sales from the tours support the ongoing running costs of the museum. Tips are gratefully received by our guides.

We are delighted to welcome groups to our Museum and can offer a visit tailored to both the setting of our Museum and your group. So that we can ensure that your party can make the most of the visit we always ask group organisers to book in advance. There is no charge for group bookings. We welcome donations which contribute towards the running costs and the work of the Museum. School and Education Groups

Bring your class along to St Andrews Preservation Trust Museum. Learn about the social history of our historic town, from how to mix and grind herbs in the Chemist Shop to weighing out a pound of butter in Aikman & Terras the Grocers Shop. We can also show the children how to roll their sleeves up and wash clothes in “Great-Grannie’s Wash-house”. There are a number of displays and artefacts to encourage children’s learning and stimulate their imagination.
