The photographs were taken by George Cowie, who worked in St Andrews for over half a century from around 1929. They include stonemasons at work, industrial printing presses and looms with their operators, College Gate, St Andrews students fund-raising campaign including the crowned Charities Queen, «prefab’ houses, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club’s cannon being fired, St Andrews station in 1952, the Lammas Market, the annual motor race on the West Sands and the construction of the university library in North Street.”
